The Carolina Center’s 2025–2026 Annual Report marks our fifth year as one of ten NIOSH-funded Centers of Excellence for Total Worker Health®. As we complete our first five-year funding period and plan for competitive renewal, this year’s report shows how far our network has come: 32 new externally funded projects totaling $24.6 million, more than 100 early career scientists supported, and research that reached over 6,500 workers across 48 worksites.
Inside, you’ll find:
- Progress from our core research projects, including more than 500 slip, trip, and fall events documented among 1,000+ firefighters, and how our healthcare worker burnout research now informs immersive team training through MaiaZura
- Our expanded Pilot Project Program, now at seven awards serving farmworkers, precariously employed rural workers, female construction workers, working mothers, employees with visual disabilities, and more
- Affiliate project spotlights, from first responder safety after Hurricane Helene to healthy meals at blue-collar worksites and resilience programs for child care providers
- Highlights from our 2026 Data Sharing Summit, which brought together 27 investigators to discuss opportunities for research collaborations in our region
- TWH Graduate Certificate updates, including our 41 graduates to date and a new program video
- Our 2025–2026 webinar series, with links to watch the recordings
