Our project has garnered strong support from fire departments and state, regional, and national firefighter organizations. We are currently recruiting fire departments to participate. Please reach out if you are interested to learn more or discuss the details of our project!
Who can participate?
Any career Fire Departments in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Our initial recruitment of departments will occur within ~ 4 hours from UNC-Chapel Hill.
What will firefighters be asked to do?
We will ask firefighter participants to complete some basic assessments at their fire station. These include basic tests such as muscle strength, balance, and surveys asking about health and working conditions. Our research team will travel to stations for testing at the station’s convenience. We will then ask firefighter participants to communicate with us through a 1-question text message over the next 15 months if they experience a slip, trip, or fall.
